Stamford Squadron Air Cadets earn their wings

CADETS took to the skies on an RAF gliding course.

Cadet sergeant Jordan Brackpool, 17, Cadet Joe Dawson, 16, and Cadet Katy Rogers, 16, from the 2071 (Stamford) Squadron Air Cadets were invited to RAF Syerston, near Newark, earlier this month to take up gliding scholarships with the RAF Central Gliding School.

The trio learned how to take off using a winch launch, land and control the glider in the air.

Jordan and Katy passed the course and were awarded their Blue Air Cadet Gliding Wings while Joe, who also passed, flew solo in the Viking Glider and gained his Silver Air Cadet Gliding Wings.

The squadron is recruiting. To join call 07539 459663.
