A student got her timing just right when she managed to snap a “selfie” with the Duchess of Cornwall.
Fiona Willetts, 17, from Braunston, was among the crowd waiting for Prince Charles and Camilla in Oakham on Monday. She stood by the Buttercross in the hope of meeting the Prince of Wales, but when he went past she saw the Duchess speaking to people on the other side of the road.
Fiona dashed over and stood in line, and when Camilla approached she decided to try her luck. She said: “As she came along I asked if I could take a quick picture.
“She said ‘of course’ and turned to look at me, but I decided to try a selfie instead.
“She was quite happy about it, although she was understandably ushered away by the security guards quite quickly.”
Fiona, a horticulture student at Moulton College, is known among friends as a selfie-taker and already has pictures with Monty Don and Carol Klein.
