Members of the Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley will be at Morrisons this week raising money for the End Polio Now Campaign.

Rotarians will be selling purple crocuses tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday to highlight the global appeal.

Club foundation chairman Ken MacKellar said: “This project has been really successful since its inception and we have seen polio gradually disappearing around the globe. Just this year India has been declared polio free.

“I hope you will dig deep so that we can completely eradicate this killer disease once and for all. We are now very close”

Since 1985, Rotary has led the private sector in the global effort to rid the world of this crippling disease. Today, its role in the initiative is recognised worldwide as a model of public-private co-operation in pursuit of a humanitarian goal.

In addition to providing financial and volunteer support, Rotary works to urge support from other public and private sector partners, for example the extraordinary challenge grants received from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
