Team trains for seven days of pain challenge
Aaron Day trains for his seven days of endurance events
A man has challenged himself to complete a gruelling seven-day marathon journey across the country to raise funds for two worthy causes.
Aaron Day, who works at Head 2 Head Barber, in Star Lane, Stamford, and four friends, are set to take on Seven Days of Pain, an event in which the group will run four marathons and cycle more than 320 miles.
The men will start their challenge at Land’s End on April 30 and finish seven days later in Milton Keynes.
The group will be raising funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Connor Wright Shwachman Diamond Project.
The RAF Benevolent Fund supports serving and former members, and their partners and children.Four members of the group are currently serving in the RAF.
The Connor Wright Shwachman Diamond Project raises funds for those suffering with Shwachman Diamond syndrome, a rare and complex disease affecting the pancreas, bone marrow and skeleton. Aaron chose the cause after a family member of a close friend died from the disease.
He said: “I’ve planned it all myself and I know it’s a hard challenge but I’m confident we’ll finish it. If your mind tells your body to do something it will do it. I’ve been training hard and the others all have high levels of fitness.
“If we all stick together and form a good bond we will get through it.”
On day one, the group will run a marathon along the Cornish coast. Day two will include a 111-mile cycle to Dartmouth. On day three the group will do another coastal marathon to Dawlish in Devon. On day four they will cover 108 miles by bike to Andover in Hampshire. They will then run a marathon to Compton on day five, and a final 107-mile cycle to Milton Keynes, via RAF bases on day six, before conquering the Milton Keynes Marathon on day seven. Aaron will be joined by Cpl Mike Gambling, Cpl Alan Pierce, Cpl Matt Nowicki and Senior Aircraftsman Andrew Mcnevin.
The group are being sponsored by recruitment company Ambitions Personnel.
