A teenager was airlifted to hospital after suffering a head injury while playing football.

The 15-year-old was hurt during an under-15s match between Royce Rangers and Huncote in Oakham on Sunday.

A Rangers striker collided with the Huncote goalkeeper, who was left confused and wondering where he was.

A Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance crew was called to the scene and arrived at about 11.40am. The player was assessed for a concussion before being flown to Peterborough City Hospital.

Royce Rangers chairman Chris Green said: “The ‘keeper didn’t quite know where he was so the air ambulance took him in. He was released last night and he felt a little groggy but is otherwise fine.”

Mr Green praised the air ambulance for their quick service.
