The Tempest starts at Tolethorpe

PERFORMANCES of The Tempest start at Tolethorpe Hall next week.

The beautiful gladed stage is the perfect setting for what was possibly Shakespeare's last play and gives us a dramatist at the height of his creative and poetic power.

The play is a magical mystical tale of a remote island, of shipwrecks and lost kingdoms, of spirits and monsters, of true love and revenge, of conspirators and clowns. At its centre is the towering figure of Prospero – a reflection perhaps of Shakespeare himself?

Members of Stamford Shakespeare Company will take to the stage on Tuesday for the first of four week-long runs of the play.

Performances take place in the weeks starting July 7, July 20, August 10 and August 24. Tickets cost between 9 and 16 from 01780 756133 or www.stamford shakespeare.co.uk
