THOUSANDS of people made the most of the good weather and enjoyed a fun-filled family day out on the shores of Rutland Water this weekend.

The sixth annual Rutland Day was held on Saturday and this year’s event was as popular as ever attracting visitors from far and wide to enjoy live music, entertainment and cooking demonstrations.

The day featured a number of family activities, including a new mini golf course, a bouncy slide, and craft and exhibition stalls.

The main stage was busy throughout the day as crowds soaked up the music from local bands including The Atlantics, and By The Rivers, a young reggae band who have featured on BBC Radio 6, as well as performing at T in the Park festival in Scotland.

The event also showcased the very best of Rutland’s produce with the Food and Drink Festival.

The third annual festival included more than 20 different stalls and producers selling a range of mouth-watering food including meats, cheeses, cakes, pastries, as well as a hog roast. Drinks on offer included wines, beers and ciders.

Visitors were also given a culinary lesson as local chefs held cooking demonstrations throughout the day.

Organiser Tony Entwhistle, of Anglian Water, said: “This was only my second taste of Rutland Day and I absolutely loved it.

“It was brilliant to see so many visitors out enjoying what our local area has to offer in such a beautiful part of the country.

“Everyone I spoke to seemed to be having a great time and they were really enjoying the late summer weather.

“This year felt like the most popular one yet, but I have no doubts that next year will raise the bar once again.

“Rutland Day is a fantastic family day out giving people the opportunity to try something new or stick to what they know and love.

“But Rutland Water is also a great location all year round with plenty for people to do – whatever the weather may bring.”
