Thurlby boat owner fined for unregistered craft

A boat owner from Thurlby has been prosecuted for keeping his craft on an Environment Agency river without a valid registration certificate.

Kenneth Lewis of High Street, Thurlby, was fined the maximum fine of £1,000 by Corby Magistrates on October 17. He was also ordered to pay court costs and compensation to cover the unpaid registration charge, coming to more than £500.

He was caught on the River Nene in Northamptonshire keeping his boat, Mardis Gras, without a valid registration certificate.

All boats kept, let for hire or used on Environment Agency waterways, including the main river, private moorings, marinas or backwaters, must be registered. To register a boat call 03708 506 506.
