Cakes and plants were the orders of the day as a group of volunteers held a stall in Uppingham to raise funds.

Uppingham in Bloom hosted the sale which took place in Market Place on Saturday.

The group took donations of cup cakes and scones which were sold on the day. And members from Rutland Cycling were on hand to hold a bike maintenance session for cyclists.

Group member Julie Lewis, who helped organise the event, said: “We raised just under £300 which isn’t bad going for a morning’s work.

“It was quite cold but we sold all of our cakes and were quite pleased with it all.

“We’re very grateful to everyone who donated cakes and bought cakes on the day.”

The group’s next event is a cheese and wine evening at The Falcon Hotel, in High Street East, on Friday next week. Entry is £5. The group is hoping to attract new members at the event.
