A former Stamford School pupil will put on a concert to raise funds for a trip to Bolivia, where he will help tackle poverty.

Matt Burnett, 24, will lead a team of British and Bolivian volunteers on a Government-funded International Citizen Service programme next month.

Matt, who is currently living in Carlby, needs to raise as much funding for the trip as he can. He will hold a gig at the Cellar Bar at Stamford Arts Centre from 8pm on April 5 and hopes to see plenty of people show up to watch.

He said: “My fundraising is a way of making sure developing countries can continue to benefit from the work of future volunteers, so it’s vital I reach my target.

I’ve been working hard to get a band together from musical contacts around the town. I used to play in gigs around Stamford when I was at school so it is exciting to collaborate with some of these old friends again.”

Matt, who also went to Uffington Primary School, added: “The project I’m working on is run by the development charity, Tearfund and aims to provide education and activities for street children to keep them from joining gangs or getting into substance abuse.

“This is a unique opportunity to work alongside people from a different culture who have requested help from young volunteers to fight poverty and make a difference where it’s needed most. I’m really excited to get out there.”

Matt will also show the Spanish film Tambien la Lluvia in George’s Place, Stamford, on March 29.
