Video: Europe’s youngest knife-thrower in Stamford

Waiting for Video...

Still dressed in his school uniform, 10-year-old Edward Pinder appears one of the least likely candidates for the title of Europe’s youngest knife-thrower.

But the Bluecoat Primary School pupil from Bisbrooke has been sharpening his skills ready for his latest appearance at Pinder’s Circus, which is holding shows on the Recreation Ground in Stamford until Sunday.

And Edward won’t just be hitting targets on a board. His mother Erika has bravely volunteered to stand in front of her son while he throws six knives into the wood behind her.

Edward, who also includes diablo, whip and rope tricks in his repertoire, was inspired to take up knife throwing by his uncle Jonny Fossett.

He said: “My uncle does it and I used to go round to his house every day and try it. So my parents suggested I make my own act.”

Edward is confident about his first performance with knives in front of a live audience, although he jokes there is a 50 per cent chance he might hit his mother.

But his skill is improving every day and he has ambitions to move on to bigger more impressive tricks.

He said: “When I get better I might get some throwing stars and axes. I might even get dad involved.”

Pinder’s Circus begins its touring season with performances in Stamford this weekend.

The family-run show tours up and down the country and features a range of exciting acts that change every year.

This year’s production includes stars from around the globe. Italian jugglers and musical clowns are joined by Hungarian aerial acts, acrobats and dancers, a Spanish roller skating duo and illusions and magic from Las Vegas.

Two shows will take place today (Friday) at 4.30pm and 7.30pm, two tomorrow at 2pm and 5pm and one on Sunday at 2pm.
