Members of the Mercury community have been eager to take up the Ice Bucket Challenge and raise money and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Mayor of Stamford Clem Walden was quick to accept his nomination from the Mercury. He did the challenge on the steps of the town hall in St Mary’s Hill yesterday (Tuesday), in full view of passers by.

Coun Walden said: “I wondered if I could cope, but then I thought ‘my goodness, what a cause’. And knowing how much has been raised already, why shouldn’t I take part?”

The mayor nominated Jenny Wright of Foundations, Teenzone, and the 2071 (Stamford) Squadron Air Training Corps - one of his chosen charities. The Teenzone team posted their video on YouTube yesterday and the Air Training Corps promised to do their challenge once they found a way to soak 40 people.
