The weather has forced a school closure as snow continues to fall.

Catmose College and Catmose Primary School will be closing at 3pm and Cottesmore Primary School has closed for the afternoon.

Gritting teams have been out and main roads appear to be clear and passable. Lincolnshire County Council said it had gritted all its A and B roads several times.

Drivers are urged to be cautious on untreated roads. Police are advising people to check the weather forecast before they travel and take precautions.

Rutland County Council has closed its tips in Cottesmore and North Luffenham and the bus services are also suffering in the county. The Oakham Hopper bus has been unable to reach Willow Crescent.

Glaston Road, known as Gashouse Hill, between the A47 and North Street East because of a water leak. Freezing conditions are making driving conditions dangerous.

The Met Office has warned of more snow to come today and there is a weather warning for snow in place for the East Midlands. Up to 5cm of snow is expected in the East Midlands and the Met Office is also warning of ice.

East Midlands Ambulance Service says colder temperatures result in an increase in calls.

Medical director Dr James Gray said: “The cold has an adverse affect on many long-term conditions and strenuous activities such as shovelling snow in freezing temperatures can increase the risk of heart attack for those who are already vulnerable.

“Keeping warm is key to keeping well. It’s especially important that elderly people heat their home and have hot meals as they’re more vulnerable to the effects of the cold.

“Slips and trips on ice and snow, as well as road traffic accidents due to driving without due care in freezing conditions, account for a large number of calls during winter. We’d advise everyone to be extra careful and not take risks.”
