VIDEO: Katie, 11, aims for place on Britain’s Got Talent

Waiting for Video...

A CLASSICAL singer is hoping to appear on the new TV series of Britain’s Got Talent to kick-start her career.

Schoolgirl Katie Marshall has made it through to the final 24 acts in the show’s YouTube competition and is calling on the public for their support.

Her online video was shortlisted from thousands of entries and she now stands a chance of auditioning for the judges and going through to the live shows if she gets enough votes.

Katie, 11, said: “I love singing and it’s nice to get a reaction from people watching so it would be great to get through and perform on the live shows.

“I’m really pleased to have got this far because it’s a good opportunity for me.”

Voting opened this week and will close on Monday.

The top five acts will be revealed in a live YouTube stream during the auditions in Birmingham on Saturday, February 18. The winners will then audition for judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden.

Katie’s mum Sarah, 50, said: “I was more excited than Katie when we heard the news.

“She was the one reminding me that she still had to get through the voting before she makes it onto the show.”

Katie, of Hall Gardens, Uppingham, sang O Mio Babbino Carro by Puccini for her audition. Supporters can view the video and vote for Katie at www.youtube.com/user/BritainsGotTalent09

The other contenders include an impressionist, a freestyle basketball act, a magician, a ventriloquist, dancers, a puppeteer and several singers, including a 16-year-old whose audition piece is the same as Katie’s.

Please would everyone vote for me if you would like to. You need a YouTube account to vote..and it's really easy to create one if you don't have one already! You can vote 5 x a day until the end of Monday 13th February. Thanks so much. Katie x
