A man was left devastated after his vintage car was destroyed in a fire which police are treating as arson.
Alan Walters’ 1939 Daimler was totally written off in the blaze which happened at his house in Kings Street, Baston, at about 11.15pm on Friday.
The car, which Alan had been restoring for about 10 years, was stored in a shed in his garden which was also wrecked during the incident, along with about 25 garden chairs, a garden table and a barbecue.
Police do not know how the fire was caused and are treating it as suspicious.
Alan, 66, who was a former joint owner of Waterside Garden Centre in the village, said: “It is quite upsetting. I’ve been working on and off on it for about 10 years.
“It will have cost about £5,000 but now it’s just scrap.
“Police are treating it as arson but it just doesn’t make sense why someone would want to do this.”
No-one was injured during the incident.
Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 544 of November 29.
