Four friends faced the pain of a sponsored full body wax as they began a campaign to raise money for a dialysis machine.

Carl Wright, Wayne Shepherd, John Hull and James Robinson braved the waxing strips at Northfields pub in Drift Road, Stamford, on Saturday.

Carl, 27, decided to raise money to buy a new dialysis machine for the renal unit at Peterborough City Hospital after the death of his father Paul on January 21.

Carl, from Sorrel Close, Stamford, said: “Dad was going to Peterborough or Leicester three times a week.

“The machine kept him alive and he made a lot of friends there.

“But sometimes we would have to change the appointment because there weren’t enough machines.

“So we thought it would be a good idea to raise the money and get one in dad’s memory.”

A new machine will cost £12,000. But thanks to sponsorship from friends and family, Carl is almost one tenth of the way there having raised £1,038 at the waxing.

The four men are still feeling the effects of the night, which saw hair removed from legs, backs and even armpits.

But Carl was grateful for the support they received. He added: “Thank you to everyone who turned up, especially to the lads who did it with me.”

A 1960s night to raise further funds will be held at Northfields on March 29.
