What a relief! Bourne road plan to go-ahead
BOURNE has been given the cash to complete a bypass years ahead of schedule.
A 700,000 loan to speed up the completion of the town's south west relief road was given the green light this week.
Cabinet members at South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) authorised an agreement with Lincolnshire County Council to pay for the road to be finished.
The agreement will give Elsea Park developers Allison Homes a 700,000 10-year loan to complete the project, and will cover costs of interest charges on the money needed to build the road early.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting this week, Mike Sibthorpe, head of planning at SKDC, said: "Details of the scheme have now been finalised between ourselves, the county council and the developer."
He added: "That money will ultimately be repaid at the point at which the developer would have expected to build the road."
Allison Homes will now be able to go ahead with construction of the road, with a view to complete it within four years.
Speaking at the meeting, Coun Gerry Taylor said: "This is good use of the council's money.
"It will be of great benefit for the residents of Bourne and its surrounding area."
