Wind farm protesters need £5k fighting fund

PROTESTERS who are campaigning against plans to build a wind farm close to their village have organised a fun and fact day to build up a fighting fund.

Members of Billingborough and Horbling Against Turbines, known as BHAT, and Action Group Against Sempringham Turbines, known as AGAST, have organised a fun day on Saturday and are hoping to raise 5,000.

The groups say they need a fighting fund to help pay for expert help if electricity company EON submits plans for 17 turbines on farmland east of Billingborough.

But the electricity firm say it currently has no plans to submit an application to South Kesteven District Council.

The protest groups are hoping to see only residents from surrounding villages to come along to the fun and fact day at Billingborough Village Hall on Saturday, between 2pm and 5pm.

Chairman of the Billingborough group Sarah Ormrod, of High Street, Billingborough, is urging people to attend.

She said: "It is a fun way to help us to raise money and a way to find out more facts. We really need the help.

"The impact of this thing won't just be a mile away, it will be a big visual impact and environmental impact for miles around if this one goes through.

"This is the village's opportunity to help us fight the wind farm."

The group would be hoping to call on the advice of environmental and noise experts if the application is submitted.

Satuday's event will include a variety of stalls such as raffle, tombola, cakes and books along with refreshments.

Members will also be launching a 12-foot long blimp balloon, if weather is permitting, to highlight the scale of the turbines.

A spokesman for EON said: "We have no current plans to put in a planning application. We are putting together information we need for that planning application so the council can make an informed decision on the wind farm."
