Winners of our Specsavers photo competition revealed

THE winners of the Mercury's Specsavers photograph competition have been announced.

With more than 130 entries received, picking the winners was a tough job for the judges.

But on Tuesday evening, at a ceremony at the Specsavers store at Morrisons in Stamford, the three winners were announced.

This year's theme was 'Should've Gone to Specsavers' and in first place, with a charming photo of her border terrier Mandy wearing sunglasses was 16-year-old Georgia Bremner, of Greatford Road, Uffington.

Second was Emma Trevor-Small, who took a photograph of her teenage son Rory Blake wearing jam-jar spectacles and third was Kezia Andreae, 12, of Emlyns Street, Stamford, who took a picture of her guinea pig complete with sneakers and a giant pair of sunglasses.

All three won a super Pentax P70 digital compact camera and Georgia also won a free eye test and a pair of designer glasses.

Georgia, 16, said she was thrilled to have won.

"I'm a keen photographer so winning a camera is great," she said.

Georgia is in the sixthform at Stamford High School and is studying AS-levels in Arts, textiles, Business and Philosophy and Ethics.

"I took the picture of my dog last summer," she said. "Keeping her still in the sunglasses was a bit of a problem but I was really pleased with the photo."

Mrs Trevor-Small, who, like our winner, lives in Greatford Road, Uffington, was at the prize giving with son Tristan.

She too was thrilled to win a camera.

"I absolutely love taking pictures," she said, "though Rory is less than pleased to have this photo of him made public!"

Third prize winner Kezia is 12 and also goes to Stamford High School. She said: "It's lovely to have won a camera.

"I took the picture of Deeba my guinea pig because I thought it would be fun to see here with the sunglasses."

At the award ceremony, att-ended by Mercury editor Eileen Green, James Keyworth, store director at Specsavers in Stamford, thanked everyone who had entered this year's competition.

"This is the fourth year we've run the competition and people continue to show their support,," he said.

"This year's competition has been a great success and it's been a pleasure looking through all the entries."
