A 40-year-old woman has appeared in court after a man was found with knife wounds at a flat in Oakham.

Sarah Lawrence, of Grampian Way, Oakham was charged with causing grievous bodily harm and drink driving.

She appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday) and was remanded in custody.

The case has been sent to Leicester Crown Court, where she is due to appear on February 19.

The man, who is 47, was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment for wounds to his lower abdomen but has since been released.

Police had been called to a block of flats in Derwent Drive at about 12.50pm on Tuesday.

Paramedics and East Midlands Emergency Care Scheme doctor Leon Roberts attended the scene before a Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance helicopter landed in the street at about 1.15pm and flew the injured man to hospital.

Derwent Drive was closed between Welland Way and Braunston Road for several hours while police carried out investigations.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
