Woolies shuts as Stamford's Adams store escapes closure

ONE high street store closed at the weekend while another has been temporarily saved from closure.

Woolworths in High Street, Stamford, closed its doors to customers on Saturday. More than 30 staff have been made redundant. The Bourne Woolworths closed last week.

Meanwhile children's clothing store Adams, also in High Street, has escaped closure after the company went into adminstration and shut 111 shops, including the one at Peterborough.

The Stamford branch is one of 160 stores to stay open while administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers try to sell the business. The administrators are optimistic they can find a buyer and said there had been "a number of expressions of interest".
