WOMEN are being urged to do something extra special for Mother’s Day and enter Race for Life with their mums.
The Stamford versus cancer event will be held at Burghley Park at 11am on Sunday, May 13.
Hundreds of women have already signed up to take part and raise money for the lifesaving work of Cancer Research UK and organisers say that signing your mum up as well solves a gift dilemma.
As well as providing a great excuse for mothers and daughters to spend quality time together as they walk, jog or run either the 5km or 10km routes, there’s the added benefit of supporting Cancer Research UK.
And the feel-good factor that comes from the atmosphere on the day will last far longer than the traditional gifts of chocolates and flowers.
Event manager for the Race for Life in Stamford Gemma Turpin said: “We are issuing the rallying cry ‘it’s all of us versus cancer’ to mums and daughters and encouraging them to enter Race for Life together, as soon as possible.
“Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to show your mum how much you care by securing places to take part in your local event together. You will be able to cherish time spent fundraising, training and taking part.
“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. The really startling fact is that, in the same period of time, around three people in the East of England will be diagnosed with cancer.”
Last year, 3,464 women took part in the Stamford event and raised an incredible £204,044. Organisers are hoping 3,600 women will help hit a fundraising target of £213,682.
Thanks to research into cancer, hundreds of thousands of lives have already been saved. With help from the people of Stamford, Cancer Research UK intends to save many more.
