Daughters are being urged to do something extra special this Mother’s Day and sign up to take part in Race for Life with their mums.
Cancer Research UK will once again hold the popular event at Burghley House, near Stamford, on Sunday, June 2.
And the organisers say buying a place in the event is a great way for mothers and daughters to spend quality time together as they walk, jog, run or even dance their way around the 5k or 10k route.
Cancer Research UK’s event manager for the east Julie Braithwaite said: “Mother’s Day is the special occasion when we acknowledge that universal truth – it’s mums who make the world go round!
“We want to encourage women in Stamford to buy their mums a very special gift this year – a place in Race for Life. And by signing up themselves, they will be able to stand together on the start line in a defiant gesture to cancer.”
Every penny raised will go towards Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
Julie added: “We want to recruit a formidable Mum’s Army, ready to take on cancer and win. We all know how committed mothers can be when they really make up their minds to do something.
“And we want to harness that power and create a unique force that will stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for crucial research.”
Last year, 2,901 women of all ages, shapes and sizes took part in the event and raised a huge £135,515.
Organisers are hoping to get a similar amount of women taking part but have set a fundraising goal of £213,682.
The Stamford event is one of more than 230 events across the country, which includes an evening event at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough on Tuesday, July 9.
