A MAN has raised more than £1,000 towards a cancer charity after a close friend died of the disease last year.
Matt Holdup, 24, of Scottlethorpe Road, Edenham has taken part in a number of fundraising events in memory of Chris Curwen, who he met four years ago when working as a football coach in the USA.
Matt ran the Sheffield half marathon earlier this month and organised a raffle supported by Peterborough United.
To date Matt and friend Jamie Love have raised about £1,200 for the Lymphoma Association.
Matt said: “The run went pretty well, I got round OK and managed to finish in two hours.
“The cause is very close to my heart. We are raising money in aid of our friend Chris who sadly lost his battle with cancer towards the end of last year.
“Chris was 23 years old when he passed away, if we can raise money, albeit a small amount, it will all go to help The Lymphoma Association work their magic.”
