MORE than 150 visitors attended the fun and games of the annual Carlby May Gala on Saturday.

Celebrating its third year, the event featured a range of stalls and entertainment, with the highlight being a dog competition, in which villagers turned out to show off their pets.

The gala was organised by a local committee, consisting of parish councillors and village residents, to raise funds for the redevelopment of the village’s playing field.

Tony Roche, committee member and compere for the event, said: “It was a very good day. We were really lucky with the weather and raised a lot of money for the playing fields.

“We had a lot of people who brought along their dog for the competition and it was great to see.

“A big thanks goes to all of the community who organised the event and anyone else who helped out on the day.”

Tom Seymour, of Farriers Way, Carlby, and his pet Schnauzer, Winston, won the best in show competition and child’s best friend category.

The final funds raised are currently being counted.
