AN HONORARY alderman toured Oakham in a vintage car to mark his impending 100th birthday.
Tommy Suthern rode in a 1924 Ford with his son Glyn and mayor of Oakham Joyce Lucas, who organised the celebration last week. Later they had afternoon tea at Castle Cottage Cafe in Oakham.
Coun Lucas said she was keen to organise the surprise for Tommy because he has contributed so much to the town.
Tommy, who will be 100 in December, said: “I shall remember this for a long time to come.”
Colin Easson Motors in Cottesmore provided the car.
