SIX new recruits have signed up to skate for a roller derby team.

Members of the Mean Valley Roller Girls held a recruitment day at Catmose Sports Centre, in Huntsmans Drive, Oakham, on Sunday.

Roller derby is a full contact, all women’s sport and is open to women of all shapes and abilities.

PR officer Megan Horner said: “It was a really good day.

“The new girls did really well and learnt a lot of new skills such as falling safely and putting their skates on.

“It was very hot in the sports hall but we had a very good day.”

The group is also inviting people to attend its band night at Mama Liz’s, North Street, Stamford, on Saturday at 8.30pm. Tickets are £5 on the door or £4 in advance.

The team will also have a float in Stamford’s Festival Parade of Floats, which is being held on Saturday.
