LAKE 5 at Eye Kettleby was the venue for Deeping St James Angling Club’s opening round of the knockout trophy and also the Club Cup.
The far side of the lake was the place to be with most of the carp staying close to the island and with many overhanging trees, accurate casting was called for.
A clear winner was Mike Atherton using the pellet waggler to great effect, casting tight to the island against a narrow band of reeds between a small gap in the trees. He took carp throughout the match to record a winning weight of 49lb 1oz from peg 18.
Along the same side, on peg 13, was Rob Allen who took a number of better carp and some silver fish to weigh in 31lb 14oz for second spot, enough to see him through to the next round of the Knockout cup.
In third place was George Bates on peg 15 who only managed a couple of small carp but worked hard throughout the match to take a nice net of skimmers on chopped worm for 29lb 5oz.
The club’s next match will be at Decoy lakes on Horseshoe.
