People are being invited to join the Cottesmore Military Wives Choir for their first performance in support of the Rutland and Melton Cancer Support Group.
The event which will take place on April 24 at 7.30pm will be the groups first public performance since forming at Kendrew Barracks back in September.
The group of 50 women, made up of wives, mothers, partners and daughters of servicemen, have so far only performed once at a private event for friends and family, held at the barracks in January.
Under the guidance of musical director Sarah Doyle and with pianist Diana De-Wett the group has been hard at work practising for the upcoming concert.
On the night, the concert will be raising vital funds for the Rutland and Melton Cancer Support Group which was set up in 2000 by Oakham resident Carol Morton who, following her treatment for ovarian cancer, wanted to offer a place of support, friendship and information for those suffering from cancer.
Marjorie Aylward, chairman of the Rutland and Melton Cancer support group said: “The concert will give us publicity for the work we do as a support group for patients with cancer and those who care for them.”
The group is hoping to raise over £1,000 on the night for the charity which will go towards improving the lives of those who are affected by cancer.
Ross Aylward, from the Rutland and Melton Cancer Support Group, said: “Their is a high degree of anticipation and expectation reverberating around Rutland whilst awaiting this major premier event. The demand for tickets is high and there will be full house on the night.
“We are grateful to Lands’ End who are sponsoring the event. We would also like to thank the businesses who have awarded quality raffle prizes and are helping to sell tickets.”
The Victoria Hall bar will also be open on the night and a quality raffle will be drawn.
Tickets for the event, which is sponsored by Lands End Direct Merchants, are now on sale for £5 each and are available from Music and More in Oakham, the Music Shop in Melton Mowbray and Uppingham Sports and Books in Uppingham.
