A RECORD number of communities are expected to compete in the 50th anniversary of the county’s Best Kept Villages and Small Towns competition.

More than 125 communities in Lincolnshire are set to take part in the competition which encourages them to take pride in their surroundings and work together to raise local environmental standards.

Communities are judged on features such as green spaces, community buildings and good environmental practice, as well as a new category which judges shops in larger communities.

The competition is run by Community Lincs in partnership with CPRE and sponsorship from the county and district councils, as well as continued support from Pennells Garden Centres.

Chief executive Fiona White said: “We are keen to celebrate this landmark anniversary and recognise all the hard work contributed by hundreds of volunteers over the years in preparing their communities and the work of the judges.”
