Motorists faced severe disruption on the roads on Friday evening following three crashes.

There where three collisions on the A1 northbound in the space of two hours on Friday causing traffic chaos through Stamford and the surrounding area as drivers took diversions.

One lane was closed near Wothorpe because of a crash at about 5pm.

There was also a collision between a lorry and a car on the carriageway near Wittering, which caused one lane to lose.

A police spokesman said no one appeared to have been injured in the incident, which was reported to them at 4pm.

At 4.25pm police were called to a four-vehicle collision on the A1 northbound at Wansford.

Police said an 18-year-old suffered back injuries in the crash, but was conscious and breathing.

Police are due to release more information on the incidents.

In Rutland fire services attended a road accident on Friday at about 3.40pm involving a tanker lorry on the A6003 Uppingham to Caldecott road.

Two crews attended and made the scene safe.
