Rutland MP Alan Duncan was “impressed” with Hanson Cement’s solar farm during a visit to the company’s site.

The firm’s quarry in Ketton incorporates 58,000 individual solar panels, producing enough energy to light the equivalent of 260,000 homes.

Mr Duncan, who was shown around the site by plant manager Stewart Jones, said afterwards: “I am hugely impressed at the way this project manages to harness renewable energy without blighting the landscape.

“These panels are so much more preferable than wind turbines which the company realised early on, and so was able to avoid disturbing local residents.”
