A WORKER at Lands’ End outlet store in Oakham whose son was badly injured in Afghanistan has raised more than £1,600 for Help for Heroes.

Janice Simpson collected the money through donations and by organising a charity sale at the shop earlier this month.

Mrs Simpson also baked and sold cakes.

She was helped by her colleagues who organised a raffle and fancy dress day with a Christmas theme.

The money was handed to the charity’s county co-ordinator for Rutland Carol Roome on Monday by Mrs Simpson at the store.

Mrs Simpson said: “I could not have raised this money without the help of all the staff at work and my family and friends.

“Oakham shops were very kind and donated prizes for the raffles.

“I thank everyone who helped.”
