Students and staff took part in a book challenge to encourage reading.

More than 130 people at New College Stamford got their head stuck into a book or two as part of the Six Book Challenge devised by The Reading Agency.

The challenge is aimed at engaging less confident readers, those who struggle with the written word and people who just want to get back into reading for pleasure by asking participants to read six books and complete a diary of their progress.

Lecturer Francoise Beattie said: “Our students have discovered the joy of reading through taking the Six Book Challenge and have felt valued for their achievement.”

Each of the 80 participants who successfully completed the challenge was entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle Paperwhite.

Level 3 Btec health and social care student, Jordan Smitheringale was the lucky winner and said she loved taking part.
