A Bourne woman has won the nurse of the year accolade at a care company’s awards.

Katya Petrova, a nurse at Wood Grange care home in West Road, Bourne, was named this year’s top registered nurse in the Barchester Care Awards.

Katya, from Bourne, enjoyed a three-course lunch while the winners were announced at the ceremony in Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire.

The judges said Katya, who has worked at Wood Grange for 11 years, has made a major difference to the quality of life for those in her care, showing a high-level of clerical skill and commitment to the individuals she cares for.

Wood Grange general manager Sally Davidson said: “Katya is an inspirational team member and has really made her mark on the Willoughby nursing community within the home.

“She always looks for solutions and takes a positive approach that rubs off on those she leads as a close knit team. She welcomes new challenges and has been temporarily working in the Memory Lane Community with those individuals in need of person-centred dementia care. Her leadership is commendable, giving staff responsibility and a sense of pride in the jobs they do.”

The award nominations came from residents, relatives, volunteers, healthcare professionals and colleagues.
