Oakham and Uppingham miss out on bid to become Portas Pilot Town

OAKHAM and Uppingham have missed out on the chance to become a Portas Pilot Town, it was announced today (Wednesday).

The 15 towns that had been successful in the second round of Government funding to become a pilot town, suggested by television retail expert Mary Portas, were announced.

Oakham and Uppingham town partnerships had hoped to get £84,000 of funding.

The 15 that were successful are: Ashford, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Braintree, Brighton, Hatfield, London Borough of Lambeth – Lower Marsh and the Cut, Leamington, London Borough of Lewisham, Lodge Lane in Liverpool, Loughborough, Lowestoft, Morecambe, Rotherham, Tiverton and London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

It brings the total number of Portas Pilot Towns to 27.
