THREE businesses are still suffering the consequences of a fire which ripped through the roof of a row of terraced buildings in June.

Italian restaurant L’Oliveto, Beans Coffee Stop and letting agents Reid Associates in Church Street, Oakham all had to close after an electrical fault in a light fitting started the fire on June 30.

Reid Associates is now operating from temporary premises in Market Street, Oakham, but L’Oliveto and Beans may not reopen for some time.

In a statement on Facebook on Tuesday Beans owner Phil Gilbert said: “With all the insurance wrangling, and it being a listed building, we’ve been warned that we could be shut for a long time – possibly up to nine months!

“So to all our loyal and regular customers, we are very sorry about a situation which is completely out of our hands!”

L’Oliveto owner Ben Ladjimi says a temporary roof will be put on the building next week and then the rest of the work will be assessed.

He added: “I hope that our customers will not forget us.”
