Oakham has been named among the best places to bring up a family in the UK for the second year running, according to a national survey.
The town has been placed at number five in children’s savings provider Family Investments’ third annual Family Friendly Hotspots Report.
Oakham scored highly for its educational results that are above average with 53 per cent of GCSE students achieving A* to C grades. The relative affluence of Oakham is shown by an average salary of £22,672, slightly above the national average of £21,380, and affordable property attracts young families. The national average for a two bedroom property is £174,632, but in Oakham this would cost a family £149,154, making it one of the most affordable towns to live in, in the top 20 list.
The town is also a safe place to bring up children with crime levels of 0.08 per capita, well below the national average.
Oakham came sixth in last year’s report. Bingham in Nottinghamshire topped this year’s list.
