Oakham town councillor is new chairman of partnership

THE chairman of a town partnership has stepped down.

Vernon Moore who owns Moore’s Estate Agents in High Street, Oakham, handed over the reigns of Oakham Town Partnership to Oakham town councillor Alf Dewis.

Mr Moore said he was struggling to devote enough time to the chairman’s role, but would continue to play an active part in the partnership, especially in the consultation sector.

He said: “Looking at the events calendar for 2012 I decided that it would be best to encourage more members to take an active role, especially in the events area.”

Coun Dewis said it was a privilege to be taking over.

The town council and partnership want to put on a big event at Cutts Close for the Queen’s diamond jubilee in June.

Then the Olympic torch will pass through the town on its way to London to start the games in July.

The partnership is looking for groups and volunteers to take part in the events.
