The funeral of Margaret Smith, 67, took place at All Saint’s Church, Oakham.

Margaret leaves a widower, George, children Joanna, Stephen and Michael, grandchildren Emily, Natasha, Mia and Luke and brother, John.

Born in Oakham to Cecil and Hilary Towell, Margaret lived in Oakham all her life. She attended Oakham CE Primary School and Oakham Secondary and, on leaving school, worked at Corah’s, Oakham, as a machinist.

She met George in 1962 and they married at Oakham Church in 1965. She decided to stop working in 1968, when her daughter Joanna was born, and spent the next 11 years at home, bringing up her three young children, before returning to Corah’s in 1979 once Michael had started school.

Margaret retired in 1996, at the same time as George, and they enjoyed many holidays abroad and in the UK, travelling to various countries in Europe and also further afield to New Zealand and Canada.

She especially enjoyed cooking and knitting but her main interest was spending quality time with her family, regularly visiting her children and grandchildren and also enjoying their equally regular visits to Oakham.
