Roma Davies, of The Broadway, Morton, died at Peterborough City Hospital, aged 86.
She was born in Morton to Louisa and Ernest Smith and at the age of 14 she went into service to look after her aunt Emily, of Dyke, where she worked for a number of years.
In her early 20s Roma worked at The Six Bells, North Street, Bourne (now Hoppers Jewellers), doing general duties. It was here she met her future husband Ivernie (Vern) who was lodging at The Six Bells during his time in the area tree felling and hauling timber. They married on November 28 1953 at Bourne Register Office and spent their first year of marriage in Llanfair Caereinion in Wales, before returning to Morton.
Roma then worked on the land before and after having her two children Ceinwen and Glyn (who sadly died in September 1995).
Roma’s door was always open to friends and kind neighbours, always popping in to make sure she was alright. A loving wife, mum and nanny, she will be sadly missed.
The funeral service took place at St John the Baptist Church, Morton, the Rev David Creasey officiating. Interment at Morton Cemetery followed. At the service her granddaughter, Leah, sang the first verse of Amazing Grace, remembering special times they spent together. Donations were made for Macmillan Cancer Support.
