Doreen Gilbert

THE funeral of Doreen Gilbert, of Wood Road, King’s Cliffe, took place at Marholm Crematorium, following a service of thanksgiving for her life at St James and All Saint’s Church, King’s Cliffe, the Rev P Davies officiating.

Mrs Gilbert died at her home, aged 80.

She was born in Southport, Lancashire, and moved to King’s Cliffe in 1956. Her skills as a high class tailoress were soon put to good use making clothes for her family and local people. Many a local bride walked down the aisle in a Doreen Gilbert creation.

With her beautiful singing voice, she was always a hit with the neighbours on washday, as she sang while doing her chores.

As a mother she also helped and served many local charities, and was a long-term member of the Middle School PFA, helping to raise funds by running whist drives, organising dinner dances and she also made the curtains for the school hall.

Her determined spirit shone through to the end, reflecting the amazing lady she was.
