Obituary: Eileen Hand

Eileen Hand, died at her home in Little Bytham, aged 84. The funeral took place at Grantham Crematorium, the Rev Sue Evans officiating.

Born in Castle Bytham, she was one of a family of 11. On leaving school she worked in domestic service in Oxford and moved back to Castle Bytham, working as a housekeeper for Dr Turner.

She met her future husband Jack in Castle Bytham pub and they were married in April, 1949.

They moved to South Witham for a time where their first daughter Jennetta was born, and later moved to Church Lane, Little Bytham, where their second daughter Maggie was born.

Moving twice more in Little Bytham they settled in New Estate.

Eileen worked on the land potato picking and beet hoeing. She also worked at Plants chicken farm before becoming a kitchen assistant for Witham Hall School, from where she retired.

She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sledging and fishing with her grandchildren. In later years she enjoyed puzzle books and jigsaws.

Widow of Jack, she leaves her daughters Jennetta and Maggie.
