THE funeral service for retired Collyweston slater, Frederick (Fred) Jackson, of Neville Day Close, Easton-on-the-Hill, Stamford, took place at Marholm Crematorium, the Rev Peter Pooley officiating. Mr Jackson died at Peterborough City Hospital, aged 75.
Son of Ethel and Ernie Jackson, he was educated at Collyweston School.
He started his working life as a milk boy on a local farm and had various other jobs before joining R Osbourne, where he trained as a Collyweston slater. Later in his career he moved to Sheffield and Ford (Builders), where he stayed until ill health forced his early retirement in the mid 1990s. Throughout his career he worked on several local historic buildings including Boughton House, Kirby Hall and Stamford Endowed School.
A member of Lincolnshire Lancaster Association Ltd, he enjoyed music and dancing, gardening and collecting aeroplane memorabilia, especially the Lancaster and Battle of Britain memorial flight. He also enjoyed a special love for all of his grandchildren.
He leaves his widow Gillian, children Mark, Neil and Tim, their partners Rachel, Mary-Ann and Donna, grandchildren Kerry, Jodie, Rebecca, Ryan, Kieran, Beth and Ellie and great grandson Jacob.
