Kenneth Arden

THE funeral of Kenneth (Ken) Arden, of Kingsway, Bourne, took place at Bourne Abbey Church, the Rev Peter Lister officiating. Mr Arden died at his home, aged 80. He leaves his widow Doreen, children Stephanie, Stephen and Richard and their families.

Born in Billingborough, he spent his childhood mainly in Horbling and the Rookfield area. After marrying Doreen they set up home in Grantham for a few years, before returning to Bourne, where they lived on Mill Drove for many years, moving to Kingsway in 1991.

Ken’s early professional career began as a mechanic on agricultural vehicles, before he moved on to lorries. He moved to Fiat Allis, at Essendine, where he made some good friends and was there a number of years before being made redundant. For the 15 years before retirement he was caretaker at Bourne Grammar School and also Red Hall in Bourne.

Before meeting Doreen he bred dogs and competed at Crufts, winning several trophies.

He was a devoted husband and family man who took great pleasure from his children and his five grandchildren. He was a keen gardener, member of Bourne Organ Club and an avid Formula 1 fan.
