RETIRED surgical instrument technician, Roy James, of Rutland Way, Ryhall, died at Cottesmore Lodge, Rutland Care Village, Oakham, aged 83.
He was the son of John and Beatrice James and educated at Bowes Road School, Southgate, London.
From 1942 - 1980 he worked at Downs Surgical and from 1980 until his retirement for Phoenix Surgical Instruments Ltd.
He served his National Service with the RAMC as a male nurse serving on hospital ships and at Fort George in Scotland from 1946 - 1948.
He was a member of the Riders for Health Charity and his hobby was motorcycle racing. He sponsored and managed sidecar teams from 1964 - 1984 and during the 1990s was a rider’s liaison for Yokohoma Tyres.
He leaves his widow Pauline, son Gary, daughter Tracy and grandchildren Nicola, Lauren, Josh and Jade.
The funeral service took place at Marholm Crematorium, Nicola Dela-Croix officiating.
