Stanley Bellamy

THE funeral of Stanley Bellamy, of New Road, Ryhall, took place at St John the Evangelist Church, Ryhall.

Stan, who died at Peterborough City Hospital, was born at Coalville Cottages, Stamford, the only child of Hilda and Arthur Bellamy. The family later moved to Essex Road, Stamford in the early 1930s. He was educated at Stamford School.

Stan joined Lister Blackstone, diesel engineering company in Stamford, where he found he had a flair for mechanical equipment. Towards the end of the second world war he enlisted with the Signals and it was during this time he met his future wife Sheila, who worked at the war department, in Droitwich. On his demobilisation he returned to Blackstones and sometime later married Sheila. In 1957 they moved to New Road Ryhall, where they made many good friends.

Stan developed his career at Blackstones in the drawing office, where he was notably involved in both engine and marine gearbox design work. He took early retirement in 1988 allowing him and Sheila to enjoy their love of English Setters and the countryside. They went off whenever possible in their small trailer tent, the setter always with them and during these trips they met many new friends from different parts of the country.
