Stanley Stevens

THE funeral service for Stanley Stevens of Burley Crescent, Oakham, took place at Grantham Crematorium, the Rev Peter Townsend officiating.

Stanley was born in Somerset in 1922 and even though he moved to Cleethorpes in 1955 with his wife Gladys and three young children to be near Gladys’ family, he always remained a west countryman at heart.He served in France during the Second World War, and on demobilisation returned to his trade as a carpenter and joiner. He was a true craftsman who took great pride in everything he did.

On his retirement in 1987 he and Gladys moved to Rutland to be near their daughter Val and son Dave. Their younger son Mike has lived in Norway for nearly 40 years, and they enjoyed many holidays there.

They both joined Market Overton and Cottesmore bowls clubs, Stan became a keen and competitive player and made many good friends. Sadly Gladys died in 2007.
