AN English country garden was opened up to visitors on Friday last week.

Keen gardener Francie Lygo opened her garden in Carlby Road, Greatford, for the National Gardens Scheme, which supports nursing and gardening charities.

The pretty garden is just under an acre and has the River Glen flowing through it with the restored Greatford waterwheel. There is a range of formal and informal planting of flowers and vegetables.

Mrs Lygo also made cakes to sell and the event raised more than £600.

She said: “It is not just fundraising that motivates me to open the garden. I feel it brings everyone in the community together.”
