AIR cadets from Rutland raised more than £700 after helping customers pack their bags at the Co-op in Uppingham.
Five members from Air Training Corps 2248 Rutland Squadron did the good deed over the course of two weekends and raised £710, which will be split between Mencap, Help for Heroes and the unit itself.
Also helping the cadets, who were aged from 11 to 18, were Flt Lt Jackie Lawrence and Flying Officer Paul Bowden plus civilian instructor Nicola Jervis.
Mrs Jervis’ daughter Emily, 20, who is an acting supervisor at the shop, gave up her spare time to help along with her son Charles, 22, as he used to work at the Co-op when he studied at Birmingham University. The fundraising was organised after the shop’s manager Frank Gerbino asked the cadets to do it.
